Hello again folks! Here is another question that must needs answering. Why is it that in a country of falling morals and a failing economy the CoE is increasing the cost of weddings by 40% and funerals by 50%?
It would be fair to say that nearly 50% of marriages in the UK experience separation and divorce and that a fair proportion of couples now have children before marriage [if at all] anyway. So the moral compass of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is not facing north. With inflation at about 5%; on an economic level these increases are not justified. Alas, the religion of Churchianity is alive and well and can propose such hikes without worrying about losing its share of a decreasing market. Because the CoE is a business and a political establishment above all. The Government does want to promote marriage and bolster family values but the CoE is not the chosen vessel. Doubtless; it will be via tax breaks and public campaigns that don't offend the various 'no god' or 'any god' lobbies.
The message - to this writer - is that it's easier and cheaper to go without a 'Christian' wedding or go to any other wedding forum. A church wedding is but an option to most even nominal Churchians. But these increases deter marriage in any form of a Christian ceremony really. Most folks will go straight to a Registry Office or some other form instead. Those scoffing atheists and humanists must be falling over themselves laughing at the pressing of yet another self-destruct button by their religious foes.
Real Bereans [Acts 17:11] are truly needed; watchmen must warn; evangelists must compel; Do Not Be Deceived and watch that periphery!
