Hello again folks! It's always amazing what goes through your mind when you are driving for a hour or three. While on the road last week returning from our weekend in Pwllheli; I got to considering eternity. Not only the real and avoidable place commonly labelled 'hell' but also heaven or paradise.
In this life, we get so easily distracted and so used to what we sense [what we see, hear, feel, smell and taste]. We get so used to this life; this existence - here and now. Have you heard this quote "... too earthly minded to be of any heavenly good ..." [or vice versa]??? I have ... and the Lord Jesus' word on this subject can be summarized thus: "lay up treasures for yourself in heaven ... where moth or rust cannot corrupt it nor any thief steal it". Jesus wants us to be minded with eternal things. Things of value in God's economy. But what is eternity? By definition; eternity is forever and therefore timeless. Folks ... there is no time in eternity. Time defines our existence in this world from the cradle to the grave. How we live in this world and the choice we make when presented with the True Gospel determines our eternal destiny. Our minds cannot comprehend timelessness. Just like you see the horizon when standing on a beach and you look at the ocean and skyline. Our mind has a horizon too. We cannot get our head around eternity - where there is no time. So these lyrics from the hymn "Amazing Grace"; namely ... "When we've been there 10,000 years ..." are technically incorrect!!!
So what's my point I hear you ask? Only that an eternity in hell is just that ... it is never ending; unbounded; it is a living nightmare; it is doom; it is unending; it is without hope; it is forever; time doesn't come into it. It's the eternal state.
Conversely; eternity in heaven with an incorruptible [new] body; knowing and seeing the Lord face to face is the ultimate in eternal security. Being as time is redundant; your eternal state truly is blissful; secure; assured; glorifying to God because of what He has done [once and for all on the 'ol rugged cross] in becoming our Kinsman-Redeemer [read the Book of Ruth some time!] ... the God-Man who lived; died and rose again on the 3rd day for our True Salvation; to defeat death [the boundary of time as we see it] and save people like me, whose own righteousness is as filthy rags [Isaiah 64:6] ... Amen ... Praise the Lord!!!
People are going to eternal damnation or eternal salvation ... if this doesn't motivate you or I to publish the True Gospel; to witness [as the Lord leads] to our lost family, friends, work colleagues and enemies et al, then nothing will! If it doesn't; we should all be plugged into the mains for a bit ... a good 240V shock should do it! Eternity is not a long time at all ... it's forever. I think I'll re-read what the Lord told us about the rich man and poor Lazarus [Luke 16: 19-31]. It's multi-layered; a 'midrash' and a warning. It's about eternity - either comfort of despair - it's our choice. He is "... not willing that ANY should perish but that ALL should come to [True] repentance." [2 Peter 3:9]
God bless you and God bless Israel ... KJS ... 08-Nov-2008
