Hello again folks! Last Thursday [14th May] was Israel Independence Day; celebrating the 61st anniversary of the creation of the modern Jewish state of Israel in 1948. And today [21st May]; one week later; it is Jerusalem Day!. And tomorrow; Friday [22nd May] marks 42 years since Jerusalem was reunified in 1967. So this is indeed a very significant and interesting week in the Jewish [and Gentile!] calendar. Please read this article on today's proceedings in the 'Jerusalem Post':
In the above article; we read that Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu stated today: "Jerusalem was always ours and will always be ours. It will never again be partitioned and divided" at the official state ceremony marking Jerusalem Day. I applaud him for making this statement; despite all the varying international political pressure being applied on his government right now. But may I also draw your attention to an interesting scripture here in Zechariah chapter 14; verse 2:
"For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city."
In addition; we must consider that there is also this scripture in Joel 3:2 referencing the judgement of those who seek to divide the land given by Almighty God to His people:
"I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land."
For me; it is important to note what Zechariah is saying. I believe that he is talking about a divided Jerusalem being attacked and one half of it being captured [whether by population or by geographical area I'm not so sure]. This implies to me that yet future; there may well be a division of Jerusalem in creating a 'palestinian' state; despite the impressive statement[s] that have been and are being made by [well-meaning] senior Israeli politicians. Indeed; there will be no ensuing peace until Messiah Yeshua returns to the Mount of Olives and thereafter. There is prophecy yet to be fulfilled on this subject. And what God says will happen; will indeed take place; in His time. Both quoted verses from these so-called 'minor' prophets are related. The land will be divided and so will Jerusalem before the great and glorious Day of the LORD. On one hand we are nearly there in terms of the whole counsel of prophetic scripture. Yet on the other hand; there are yet more events that needs must take place for these verses to be fulfilled literally. A lot of folks [including the 'experts'] got Messiah's first advent wrong and a few were ready; it wouldn't surprise me if history repeats itself as the last days play out and the Tribulation spreads out before us. A good tip for any serious prophecy student is to watch Israel and especially Jerusalem [beneath the headlines too!]. So please continue to be Bereans. Watchmen must warn; evangelists must compel! Thank you for taking the time to read this message. God bless you; God bless Jerusalem and God bless Israel ... KJS ... 21-May-2009
