Hello again folks! If you ever wanted to get a handle on the 'lay of the land' back in 1946-1948 when, of all people, the British were sending post-Holocaust Jews back to Germany from the land of their fathers; Heretz Israel [and Cyprus] to Germany; you could do no worse than watch the 1960 film: "Exodus" which starred Paul Newman and is a 3 hour; 19 minute classic!
Last night; I finally found the time to sit down with Julie and watch this film, end-to-end, and I have to say that I thought that it was [for a 'Hollywood blockbuster'] a relatively accurate historical picture about a situation that the world is all too quick to erase from its memory.
It shows a British disdain for Jewry; covers [some of the] Exodus saga; the internal schisms in the Zionist movement; the bombing of the King David Hotel and that fantastic, historic UN vote.
For £2.99 [plus P&P]; this is a good investment [in my opinion]. I got my copy from amazon.co.uk here:
There is an apparent lack of recollection by the general populace in their own history that is being seized upon by certain folks as, quietly and surely, history is re-written. This genre of films from particularly the 1950's and 1960's, although often with the usual Hollywood romance and add-ons, can be very educational. Why don't you research the birth of modern Israel from the Balfour Declaration in 1917 to it's conception in 1948 for yourselves? It's good stuff! DO NOT BE DECEIVED! Be Bereans; watchmen must warn; evangelists must compel! God bless you and God bless Israel ... Keith JS ... 08-Aug-2009
