Hello again folks! Regular visitors to this 'ol blog will doubtless be aware the "keep watching the periphery" is one of my regular 'mantras'. Both before and after the latest Davos deliberations; the situation in Greece was being reported on - in the periphery of the news. Basically; as a result of the [so-called] 'credit crunch'; and the ensuing meltdown in terms of most western economies [leaving aside the former Soviet bloc satellite Baltic countries et al]; the first country in real trouble closer to home is Greece. Their debt; as a percentage of GDP; is a whopping 12.7%. Greece was the 10th country to join the EU back in 1981. They are under immense pressure from the EU; the IMF and other global hierarchies to reduce that debt and they are having to do by imposing severe budgetary cutbacks on its government and [of course] its citizens. Expect trouble in the Hellenics:

It's interesting that the 'experts' in Bible prophecy around in the early eighties thought that Greece joining the EU as the 10th member was significant back then. Those then 'Pre-tribbers' must have been heading for the bunkers! Now that Greece PLC is in a spot of bother; I think it meet to consider these two [2] scriptures:

"And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay." [Daniel 2:41-43]

"I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things." [Daniel 7:8]

Maybe the potential ejection of a state from the EU 'Beast' is more applicable to the above scriptures here in 2010 than when Greece joined the EU those 29 years ago? Worth considering me thinx! You might be thinking at this juncture that I'm a little keen to seize on this single developing scenario ... but my intention is to nudge folks to think laterally. Especially when you consider this OTHER developing scenario [within the EU] too:

'Money Week' is reporting that next in the firing line of fiscal fallout could be Portugal [EU members since 1986; the 11th member state to join the EU and following on from Greece [according to Wikipedia]. It is the spectre of Portugal maybe joining Greece in their troubles that prompted me to finally compile this blog after compiling months of stories re: Greece's woes.

I'm not saying that these troubled countries ARE two [2] of those first three [3] 'horns' ... but ... in the days we live in ... and to quote Meat Loaf: "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" ... it's certainly worth noting that within the periphEUry of our European neighbourhood; events are happening that should be noticed and noted and checked out by real Bereans and true Bible scholars.

Even if Greece and Portugal aren't two [2] of THOSE three [3] horns - we still need to be watching the periphery and not what's put on our plates - night after night - by the usual [news] suspects. Thankyou and goodnight! Real Bereans [Acts 17:11] are truly needed and in short supply; watchmen must warn; evangelists must compel; DO NOT BE DECEIVED! and watch that periphery!

God bless you and God bless Israel ... Keith JS ... 04-Feb-2010
